Troublesome fat deposits - they're frustrating, annoying and, well, troubling. From a protruding bulge of fat around the waistline to rolls that stick out under clothing, unwanted fat cells can prevent us from showing off our body or wearing certain styles. It's common to think that diet and exercise are all that's needed to remove these fat deposits, but that isn't always the case. In some parts of the body, fat cells are more prominent and can be challenging to eliminate. Oftentimes, factors out of our control like aging and genetics can also make it difficult to lose unwanted fat, despite a healthy diet and regular exercise.

Thankfully, in our technologically advanced world, there are body-contouring methods available that can address these problem areas and help you create the body you want. At The Anti-Aging Clinic of Northwest Florida, we offer high-definition liposuction with VASER, a fat removal procedure that removes stubborn fat and produces beautiful, natural-looking beautiful results. If you're interested in learning more about VASER liposuction and would like to schedule a consultation with Dr. Timothy Ramsden, please contact us at (850) 238-8563 or visit our contact page.

How Does VASER Liposuction Work?

VASER (Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance) liposuction is an advanced fat-removal technology that utilizes ultrasonic vibrations to displace and liquefy fat cells. The high-frequency energy of the VASER penetrates deep into fatty deposits, disconnecting unwanted fat from surrounding tissues and making it easier to extract. This results in a gentler procedure that removes fat cells without damaging nervous tissue, collagen and blood vessels. Once the liquefied fat cells are freed from the surrounding tissues, they are suctioned out via a small, tube-like tool called a cannula. Compared to traditional liposuction, VASER lipo provides a milder, more controlled way to remove unwanted fat cells.

By focusing exclusively on the removal of fat cells while leaving tissues and blood vessels intact, VASER liposuction limits the risk of bruising and swelling after surgery. This approach means a quicker healing process and better skin contraction for optimal results. VASER liposuction is a highly reputable body-sculpting technology.

Who Can Benefit From VASER Liposuction?

VASER liposuction is appropriate for both men and women who desire a more defined physique. It's important to remember that VASER lipo is not a treatment meant for weight loss, however. While it can help reduce fat cells, it is best used for treating stubborn fat deposits, as opposed to overall fat reduction. The ideal VASER liposuction patient has a BMI of less than 30 and is looking to treat no more than 4 percent of their body weight. Patients are typically in moderately good shape with a decent amount of muscle tone and skin elasticity but have trouble attaining the body they want due to stubborn fat in certain problem areas, like the hips or stomach.

The VASER Liposuction Procedure

VASER liposuction is performed with either general or local anesthesia, depending on the size and scope of treatment areas. Before using the VASER liposuction technology, a special saline solution will be injected into the treatment site. The solution will expand the fatty layer, numb the treated area and shrink blood vessels, which will help to reduce bruising and blood loss. Next, a small, strategically-placed incision will be made, and a skin protector will be put in place to ensure a comfortable experience. The VASER liposuction ultrasonic probe will then be inserted into the fatty layer and emit high-frequency sound waves to dislodge unwanted fat cells. Dr. Ramsden will move the probe back and forth in a violin-playing pattern, liquefying the fat cells upon contact for easier removal.

Once the fat has liquefied and broken apart from surrounding tissues, the probe will be removed and Dr. Ramsden will insert a suctioning cannula. This cannula will suction out all of the liquefied fat and special saline solution. Some fluid will remain to continue numbing the area, which will be naturally absorbed by the body over the next several days. After the fat is removed, the incision will be closed and a compression garment will be applied to the treated area. The compression garment is essential because it will reduce swelling and promote improved recovery. Surgical drains may also be used to remove excess fluids and may remain in place for several days after your procedure.

The amount of time it takes to complete your VASER liposuction treatment will vary depending on your needs, goals and areas of concern. For patients having one area treated, VASER liposuction typically takes one hour. Patients who are having multiple areas treated can expect the procedure to last up to four hours.

VASER Liposuction Recovery

After your VASER lipo procedure, you may have some bruising, swelling and minor discomfort in treated areas as your body begins to heal. Bruising and swelling are natural, normal side effects from the treatment and will subside after a few days. The compression garments will help to minimize these effects and should be worn for up to four weeks. After 48 hours, they can be removed to shower but should be put back on. While your body recovers, you should also avoid strenuous exercise and take some time before returning to your daily routine. Dr. Ramsden will advise you on when you can resume all normal activities and provide you with detailed aftercare instructions for your recovery. If you have any questions or concerns after your procedure, he and his team will be available to address them to ensure a positive, comfortable experience.

VASER Liposuction Recovery

You may notice an improvement in treated areas immediately after your VASER lipo procedure, but more dramatic results typically take some time to develop. Treated areas may be swollen or bruised after your procedure, which can affect the appearance of your new contours. Final results can take anywhere from three to six months to appear. The number, size and location of treated areas along with your personal healing rate can all affect the amount of time it takes for results to be fully realized.

With VASER lipo, most patients reach their body goals after just one treatment. These results will be permanent as long as you continue to eat a balanced diet and exercise regularly. If you slip into poor eating habits or an unhealthy lifestyle, however, you run the risk of negatively impacting your results. Think of VASER lipo as an opportunity that gives you a headstart on having the body you want, keeping in mind that the longevity of your results depends on how well you maintain them. For many, VASER lipo provides the extra motivation they need to stay in shape and maintain their newly contoured figure long after the procedure.

How Does VASER Liposuction Differ from Traditional Liposuction?

VASER and traditional liposuction are similar because they both involve the removal of fat, but VASER lipo offers several distinct advantages. VASER liposuction uses ultrasound technology to disrupt fat cells and can gently sculpt your desired contours with minimal trauma to surrounding tissues. In contrast, traditional liposuction is a more invasive and involved procedure, which results in a longer recovery period. VASER lipo is also better suited to removing smaller fat deposits in common problem areas and can sculpt high-definition contours for a more athletic appearance. Traditional liposuction, on the other hand, is often used to remove larger amounts of fat in broader treatment areas.

Patients seeking to remove bothersome fat deposits with VASER lipo can achieve results that are just as transformative as those provided by traditional liposuction. This advanced technique can provide a dramatic, flattering outcome by strategically removing smaller amounts of fat in targeted areas, particularly the sides, abdomen, back and arms. With the right skill and precision, VASER lipo can sculpt your physique to give you the exact contours you want.
