Aging causes our skin to become lax, droopy and wrinkled. When we experience these signs of aging, they can detract from our overall confidence in our appearance and make us look older than we might feel inside.

At the Anti-Aging Clinic of Northwest Florida in Panama City Beach, we offer Renuvion to address skin laxity and achieve tighter, smoother skin.

What Is the Renuvion Procedure?

Renuvion, also known as J-Plasma, is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that provides tissue contraction to tighten the skin. Made by Apyx® Medical, the Renuvion device uses radiofrequency (RF) energy and helium plasma to improve moderate to severe wrinkles, fine lines and loose skin.

Renuvion patients can expect more sculpted facial contours and tighter skin after this treatment.

How Does Renuvion/J-Plasma Work?

The radiofrequency energy waves energize the stable helium gas used in Renuvion to deliver a beam of plasma to the treatment area. This is administered through a thin metal tube inserted under the skin. The plasma heats the tissues to the ideal temperature for contraction and collagen stimulation.

Excess helium gas quickly cools down the area in less than a second. This prevents any damage to the surrounding tissues.

The entire treatment process can usually be completed in approximately 30 minutes.

How Long Does It Take to Recover From Renuvion?

Most patients fully recover from Renuvion within one to three weeks. You can expect to need two or three days of rest, after which you can resume sedentary work and other activities. Light bruising and swelling typically resolve within one week. We recommend taking two weeks off from any strenuous activities, including exercise.

The recovery after Renuvion is generally shorter than recovery from other minimally invasive radiofrequency treatments.

How Long Does It Take to See Results From Renuvion?

You will notice skin-firming results immediately after your Renuvion procedure, but more dramatic results can take anywhere from four to six weeks to fully develop. You may continue to see further skin tightening for up to six months due to collagen rebuilding within your skin.

How Long Do the Results of Renuvion Last?

The results of Renuvion can last anywhere from three to five years. The longevity of your Renuvion results will depend on your initial skin quality, how you care for your skin, lifestyle factors and your genetics. To help maintain your Renuvion results, we recommend following a healthy lifestyle, using sunscreen daily, avoiding direct sun exposure as much as possible and following a quality skincare regimen.

Can You Do Renuvion More Than Once?

Yes, however, most patients need just one or two Renuvion treatments to achieve their skin-tightening goals, with results that last for years. After your initial treatment(s), you can choose to undergo repeat treatments every few years to maintain your results.

Frequently Asked Questions About Renuvion/J-Plasma

Can All Skin Types Benefit From Renuvion?

This treatment is recommended for Fitzpatrick skin types (phototypes) I, II or III. These skin types are generally light to darker white skin that burns in the sun, which may or may not turn into a tan.

Renuvion is not recommended for patients with light brown to dark brown or black skin (Fitzpatrick types IV, V or VI).

Are Incisions Needed for Renuvion?

Small entry points are used to access the underlying tissue. These are technically incisions, but they are so small that scarring is minimal and typically unnoticeable.

What Type of Anesthesia Is Used for Renuvion?

Renuvion can be performed with the patient awake and under local anesthesia. If you would rather, general anesthesia can be used to put you to sleep for this procedure.
